What made you want to buy an M3 over something else?
Growing up I had an uncle with older M3s and I knew I wanted to own one. The M3 had always been a bucket list car for me.
How did you find your M3 for sale?
I happened to come across it while I was on cars .com. It checked all the boxes and I inquired about it. I was fortunate that even though it was at a Chevy dealer I was able to speak with the previous owner who worked for the same dealership group. After talking with him I knew this was the car. I bought it site-unseen and had it shipped from Seattle to Kansas. The rest is history.
What have you done to the car since you bought it?
I was fortunate the previous owner before me had done most of the things I wanted to do during my ownership and he sold me a few things. This included: Exhaust, test pipes, updated angel light headlights and some carbon fiber pieces.
Besides that I have kept it oem+. I added spacers, lowering springs, sequential turn signals, carbon lip and diffuser.
Favorite modification that you’ve done to your M3 and why?
The exhaust and test pipes are my favorite. I currently have Eisenmann race exhaust. I do daily drive my car and the cabin noise isn’t terrible. It’s enough when driving around town but as soon as I put it in M mode it’s rowdy. Best of both worlds.
Are there any negatives or downsides about your M3?
Nothing that I can think of. I purchased it with 29k miles and currently have 78k 3.5 years later. The car has never left me stranded.
Have any advice for somebody who’s looking to buy a BMW M3 that you wish you knew from the start?
Do your research. I didn’t settle for any car and came across a great car.
What maintenance have you had to? Anything that caught you by surprise or that you anticipated?
Fuel pressure valve – 35k miles
Rod Bearings – 52k miles
Rear brakes/rotors – 65k miles
Front brakes/rotors – 68k miles
Throttle Actuators – 74k miles
Brake Vacuum booster 75k miles
Spark plugs – 76k miles
Oil changes – every 3k miles
The rod bearings going out so soon surprised me. From my previous knowledge I did know it can happen anytime. I’ve heard cars with 10k miles going out and cars with 200k miles with no prior knowledge of them being replaced.
Luckily, I was anticipating doing it during my ownership. I’m just glad it caught it when I did.
If you could buy any 3 BMW’s, what would they be?
E92 M3 limerock, M4 GTS and 1M
What other cars have you owned?
– first car passed down to me: 1999 Volvo XC70
– 2006 Infiniti G35 sedan
– 2016 BMW 340
– 2020 BMW M340
What other hobbies do you have?
To be honest my life revolves around cars. Car shows in the summer time, dinners with car friends and doing annual trips with friends to Arkansas (Eureka Springs in particular).
But, I do enjoy golfing, F1, working out and collecting diecast cars.
