Doug’s Take

The E36 BMW M3 has been gaining a lot of interest among enthusiasts recently thanks to its no-frills analog driving experience and classic BMW styling. This particular M3 Coupe is a desirable example, boasting a 5-speed manual transmission and a handsome black over black color combination. It also features some great factory equipment, including 17-inch Style 23 wheels, a limited-slip differential, Nappa leather upholstery, and power-adjustable “Vader” front sport seats – and it’s equipped with a few nice upgrades like a UUC Motorwerks catback exhaust and aftermarket struts and springs. On top of all that, this M3 benefits from ownerships in warm-climate California since 2002 – AND it’s offered with the excitement of no reserve!

Highlights

THIS… is a 1999 BMW M3 Coupe, finished in Cosmos Black with a black interior.

  • This M3 features the desirable 5-speed manual transmission. The attached Carfax history report shows some gaps, though it lists no mileage discrepancies for the given time period. It also shows ownership in California since 2002.
  • According to the build sheet provided in the gallery, factory equipment includes 17-inch Style 23 wheels, a limited-slip differential, a rear spoiler, a sunroof, “Vader” front sport seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and a Harman/Kardon sound system.
  • Modifications reported by the seller include a UUC Motorwerks catback exhaust, aftermarket struts and springs, and an Alpine head unit.
  • The E36 generation of the iconic BMW M3 was the first M3 powered by an inline-6 engine. Originally, the United States was not slated to get an M3. After owners famously banded together and demanded one be made, BMW brought the M3 to the U.S. market with a de-tuned and simpler engine than the European M3 due to emissions restrictions. It was a major commercial success for BMW, and it cemented the BMW M brand in the U.S.
  • Power comes from an S52 3.2-liter inline-6, rated at 240 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.
