Produced since 1986 and beloved by driving enthusiasts ever since, BMW’s M3 is the company’s most successful high-performance model, purpose-built for racing homologation. Victorious in German DTM, British BTCC, and European ETCC touring car championships since inception in the late 1980s, the M3 was also a juggernaut in North American IMSA and SCCA competition.
The E36-generation M3 debuted for 1992, initially in coupe form, supplemented by a cabriolet in 1998. The E36 was also the first M3 with six-cylinder power, featuring dual overhead cams, VANOS variable cam timing , and electronic fuel injection. Featuring numerous suspension, steering, and braking upgrades, this limited-production, European-spec Evolution model is powered by a highly tuned 3.2-liter engine rated at 321 bhp, making it the first BMW engine to produce more than 100 hp per liter. Featuring BMW’s bold Techno Violet Purple livery with M-Cross fabric upholstery, this top-specification BMW M3 Evolution is a very rare and well-preserved example with bright and glossy paint, full original BMW-etched glass, original staggered BMW Motorsport wheels with new Michelin Pilot Sport tires, and factory-original radio. Original owner’s manuals, pamphlets, and directories are inside the proper folio.
An inspection and major service was completed by BMW Group Classic in Munich, prior to the M3’s recent arrival in the US. Ready to offer an exhilarating driving experience, this 1996 M3 Evolution is a definitive product of the engineering wizards at BMW’s legendary racing division, BMW M Motorsport GmbH, and rightly enjoys cult-like status today.
